Description:

The Summit Daily News, located in the heart of the Colorado mountains, is seeking a reporter to cover high school sports, ski industry, recreation and local government. While this position will cover sports and recreation in our community, coverage of town council meetings is also required, with focuses on hard news and features.

The schedule is flexible and largely set by the reporter based on coverage needs but will report to the office Tuesday to Saturday schedule and require some coverage of town council meetings or sporting events in the mornings or evenings.

Summit Daily News won the “Excellence in Editorial” award for Class 2 at the 2024 Colorado Press Association’s annual Better News Contest awards ceremony in August 2025. Our preferred candidate is passionate about writing impactful stories that help our community thrive, using curiosity and tenacity to keep our readers informed using our digital-first strategy.

We live to tell the story of Summit County, where people from across the country come to play in the outdoors. We're looking for an adventurous spirit with a love for mountain towns. However, this is not a position for beginners or someone looking to subsidize their powder-seeking habit. We need a mature, ambitious storyteller who can write clearly, shoot compelling images, occasionally edit a video and find news you can’t get anywhere else — all on deadline.

Full disclosure: It snows here — a lot, if we're lucky.
