Description:
Southeast Missourian is looking for a workhorse, experienced, productive reporter who can cover anything.
Join our talented staff and learn how to incorporate our proprietary content management system's AI components. We use AI in what we believe is its highest order — to augment and improve what only our staff can provide, local news that is important, relevant and interesting.
We need a hybrid reporter — someone who understands the old-school methods of talking to people face-to-face and turning around stories on deadline while also leveraging technology.
This position is in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, halfway between St. Louis and Memphis, Tennessee. Cape is a Mississippi River town, and is the health care, education and commerce hub of the region. It's a city of 40,000 people, but each day 100,000 people come here to work, study, eat, shop and play. Southeast Missouri State University is a D-1 school, and Cape's downtown is bustling with restaurants and live music venues, including one owned by the company.
The Southeast Missourian is the flagship of Rust Communications, a family-owned company with a network of publications in the region. This team of journalists helps us provide coverage over a wide area. We are proud of what we do, and this newspaper in particular has a history of investigative projects that have gotten innocent people out of prison and put a bright light on issues ranging from law enforcement excessive force to wasteful spending within school districts.
Send a cover letter, clips and résumé to editor Rick Fahr, rfahr@semissourian.com.
