Description:
Youthcast Media Group (YMG), which trains high school students to create multimedia journalism about health, safety and social issues in their under-resourced communities, is seeking a DMV-based contractor with journalism and social media experience. This individual is needed to go in person at least weekly to high schools in the DC area to work with students and other YMG staff and volunteers on journalistic social media posts (that use video, photo and/or graphics) and news articles. These articles are published in school newspapers and often also in media outlets. Other needs include support with virtual training and editing of social media posts, articles, videos and photos and preparation of students to speak at public events, based on YMG's calendar, funding and candidate's availability.
Proficiency in Canva, CapCut, other video-editing software and teaching are all big pluses. So too are having a passion for the topics we cover and people skills that would allow the candidate to represent YMG well at occasional conferences and events in and outside of the DC area.
We envision early-career candidates, possibly graduate students who have journalism training. This position could expand into a part- or full-time staff role. Hourly pay is based on experience and skills.
Please send resumes, availability and links to social media accounts (or at least to posts that are good examples of your skills) and published articles, if available, to jodonnell@youthcastmediagroup.org.
