Description:
Solutions-focused, nonprofit online news magazine is seeking an Audience Engagement Editor to help us better identify, serve and expand our readership. Apply by January 2, 2026.
Responsibilities
Design, implement and manage a comprehensive audience strategy aimed at growing our readership among both general and targeted audiences
Create and publish content (including graphics and video) for newsletters and social media feeds
Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to learn more about our audiences
Collect and synthesize analytics data, both internally and from partners
Leverage audience data and analysis to work with editors on shaping editorial strategy
Identify and record examples of impact
Develop new publication partnerships and deepen existing ones
Develop and oversee reader surveys and communicate findings to the team
Qualifications
At least three years experience working in audience engagement at journalism outlets
A track record of designing and implementing successful audience growth strategies
An enthusiasm for nonprofit and/or solutions journalism
A curiosity to explore underutilized mediums for story reach and audience growth like LLMs and social video
Comfortable working with major social platforms used by RTBC (Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn) as well as platforms we might embrace (TikTok, Threads, Reddit) and their management tools (Hootsuite, Later, etc.)
Adept at using Mailchimp to send newsletters and track performance
Proficient with software used to create video, audio and illustrations
Adaptable, personable and able to work well with a small, tight-knit team
Location: Remote, or hybrid for candidates in or near New York City
Commitment: 25-30 hours per week
Compensation: $3,500 per month (contract position)
