Description:

Photographer — The Montana Standard (Butte, Montana)

Southwest Montana’s leading news source, The Montana Standard, is seeking a driven, talented photojournalist to join our team. From Butte’s rich mining history and the wild country that surrounds it, to high-stakes courtrooms and Friday night football games, our newsroom covers it all  — and we’re looking for a photographer who can bring those stories to life visually.

Our ideal candidate is comfortable shooting everything from breaking news and local events to in-depth features and sports. You’ll work closely with reporters and editors at The Standard, and our neighboring newsroom the Helena Independent Record, to produce compelling visuals that capture the heartbeat of the region. We are a digital-forward team that prioritizes creative, powerful multimedia storytelling.

Butte isn’t your average Montana town and The Standard isn’t your average newsroom. You’ll join a small yet mighty team of experienced journalists who care deeply about the community they cover. We value hustle and collaboration. And while photojournalism is your primary focus, you will be asked to write stories on a general assignment basis when needed. In other words: reporting and writing skills are a must.

Why Butte?

Butte is tough, proud, and unpolished in all the right ways.

Situated on the Continental Divide, it’s a town built by miners and makers, where history and community spirit run deep. Uptown’s historic brick buildings and neon signs are home to a growing mix of restaurants, coffee shops, galleries and music venues. For those seeking Montana’s great outdoors, Butte offers front-door access to some of the best hiking, skiing, fishing, and exploring in the state.
