Description:
STAFF WRITER
Monterey County Weekly (aka Monterey County Now on the digital platforms) has an immediate opening for a staff writer.
We need someone who is a critical thinker and an excellent storyteller—someone who can report the news and find scoops in the community. The ideal candidate is a utility infielder who can also contribute as needed to personality-driven features on a range of subjects. Must be able to balance long-term stories with breaking news assignments. Monterey County is over 60-percent Latino, and Spanish language skills are a plus. Digital fluency, data-driven reporting experience and long-form writing chops with a minimum of five years experience further enhance the likelihood of hire.
Ours is a company where we treat journalists like human beings. This is a full-time position, not remote work, with a salary of $60,000/year (depending on experience). Includes a generous benefit package.
To apply send a cover letter, resume and clips to the editor, Sara Rubin, at sara@montereycountynow.com
