Description:
The Sun Chronicle is seeking a full-time, self-motivated news editor to join our award-winning editorial staff. Our employees believe in our tradition of high-quality editing, design and reporting that highlights the people, places and institutions within our 10-community circulation area – Attleboro, North Attleboro, Foxboro, Mansfield, Norton, Norfolk, Plainville, Rehoboth, Seekonk and Wrentham. Expected time commitment: 40 hours a week. Expected shift is 2-10 p.m., Monday-Friday
This is a remote position that will at times require travel to our office in Attleboro, Mass.
Job responsibilities will include:
- Developing ideas and assigning stories for and to our talented reporters and correspondents, and working with them to see stories through to completion
 - Editing copy from reporters on a variety of local topics and subjects on tight deadlines, ensuring adherence to AP style, grammar and clarity
 - Creating engaging page layouts – from headlines to cutlines – of both local news and feature sections on a daily basis
 - Compiling listings, including local entertainment and business news, for weekly sections
 - Writing stories, when needed
 
The right candidate for this position will have the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication or related field
 - At least five years of demonstrated news judgment and knowledge about our 10-community circulation area
 - At least three years of full-time experience editing for a daily or weekly print or digital news publication
 - Prior experience with Adobe InDesign paginating for a daily or weekly print or digital news publication, and at least three examples of pages designed
 - Excellent written and oral communication and organization skills
 - Excellent attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
 - Proficiency using computers, content management systems, social media, and Adobe InDesign
 - Must have a valid driver’s license, as well as a smartphone
 - Must be motivated and able to work independently
 - Must be flexible with hours
 
Salary range: $40,000-$53,000 a year
