JOB SUMMARY
This position provides PR assistance to a growing Public Affairs team that enhances the organization’s public profile by generating earned media coverage. In a typical month, the National Trust for Historic Preservation will release several newsworthy public announcements, receive numerous press inquiries on various matters, and get mentioned in thousands of news stories on a huge range of topics. This position assists with building media lists, drafting press releases, pitching reporters, scheduling media interviews, and measuring coverage.
This role is DC based.

DUTIES
- Help ensure the success of PR efforts connected to a wide variety of overlapping program announcements, organizational updates, leadership positioning, and the publication of owned content.
- Create media lists, press releases, pitch templates, media coverage reports, and written deliverables connected to a new podcast.
- Pitch reporters, respond to press inquires in an on-the-record capacity, and schedule media interviews.
- Track and sort daily news coverage in Cision.
- Opportunities to work on video or audio editing projects, if desired.
- Initially the team will work in person at the DC office several days per week. After a few weeks/months, our team will return to its normal posture in an almost entirely remote setting. In-person attendance may still be required for certain occasional meetings / events.
- Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1 to 2 years of relevant experience (internships can count), preferably in a PR agency setting.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail. Finely tuned news judgment.
- Basic analytical and problem-solving skills, including issue identification and prioritization. Basic project organizational skills. Ability to achieve results with moderate supervision.
- Familiarity with media monitoring databases like Cision.
- Experience successfully interacting with key stakeholders. Ability to collaborate and achieve results. When working in the office, public contact and ability to work successfully in close proximity to others required. When working off site, ability to work effectively in a remote environment, maintaining productivity and communication to meet deadlines and goals, is required.
- Demonstrated success in working with culturally diverse colleagues and stakeholders. Bi-lingual language skills a plus.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task efficiently and respond to a high volume of ongoing requests in a timely fashion. Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat required.
- Interest in history and preservation preferred.
- Regular and reliable attendance required.
- Occasional travel may be required.
PAY & BENEFITS
This is a full-time, exempt level position, eligible for full benefits, including health, dental and life insurance, retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and 3+ weeks of vacation, plus sick time and holidays.
Hiring Range: $53,000-64,000 per year
