The Adams County Record in Hettinger, North Dakota, is seeking a full-time Editor who is passionate about LOCAL news and community journalism. We’re looking for someone who believes in the value of newspapers and the important role they play in keeping neighbors informed, connected, and engaged.

As Editor, you’ll wear many hats — from writing and editing stories to taking photos, designing pages, and ensuring excellent communication with readers and advertisers. You’ll work closely with a fellow reporter and the GS Publishing team to produce a newspaper that truly reflects the spirit of Adams County.

What You’ll Do

• Write engaging local news, features, sports, and community stories.

• Take high-quality photographs to accompany stories and events.

• Edit your own work and that of other reporters for accuracy, clarity, and style.

• Design and layout newspaper pages using publishing software.

• Monitor and respond to emails, phone calls, and community inquiries.

• Provide friendly, professional customer service to readers and advertisers.

• Attend local meetings such as city council and school board sessions.

• Collaborate with staff to develop story ideas and plan coverage.

• Maintain deadlines in a fast-paced, weekly publication cycle.

Who You Are

• You have a strong belief in the importance of local journalism.

• You’re curious, creative, and enjoy getting to know people and their stories.

• You have experience in writing, reporting, and photography.

• You’re comfortable working independently as well as part of a small team.

• You have good time management and organization skills.

• You hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
