Description:

The Register is seeking a US reporter to help continue our long tradition of biting the hand that feeds IT. Founded in the UK more than 30 years ago, The Register's writers and editors are known for our technical acumen, skeptical air toward vendors and industry hype, and humorous headlines incorporating puns, nicknames, alliteration, and occasional other excesses. 

This reporter will be focused on cloud providers, SaaS, and/or AI, with the precise breakdown depending on qualifications, interests, and needs. But we love tech polymaths with a wide range of interests, from software to climate, personal tech to outer space, and reporters have fairly wide leeway to follow their interests. 

Qualifications:

• At least three years' experience writing for a technology publication.
• Familiarity with B2B software vendors and their offerings, particularly cloud providers and SaaS companies.
• Conversant in other technologies, particularly AI and open source.
• Strong writing skills and an appreciation for El Reg's style and attitude.
• Skepticism and curiosity - you don't have to know everything, but you must be willing to learn by reading the docs, finding the right people, and asking "why?" or "how does that work?" until you get an answer.
• Preference given to hands-on practitioners who have worked or trained in IT, and any reporter with a demonstrated ability to deliver scoops in the areas Reg readers care about.
