Stars and Stripes, the independent news organization covering the U.S. military community worldwide, is seeking an experienced, dynamic journalist to lead its Europe and Middle East bureaus.

The bureau chief will guide coverage that connects daily life with global events, making our reporting essential to service members, veterans and their families.

The position requires a leader who can coordinate a team of about 20 reporters and editors spread across multiple countries and time zones. The bureau chief will drive multiplatform storytelling — working closely with reporters, copy editors and web editors — while expanding our digital presence. Collaboration with colleagues in the United States and Asia is central to delivering cohesive global coverage.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a geographically dispersed team, fostering strong reporting and editing across print, digital, video and social platforms
• Shape coverage that is accurate, fair and deeply relevant to the military community
• Advance breaking news and enterprise storytelling to broaden reach and impact
• Coordinate with other bureaus to ensure seamless global coverage

Qualifications

• Proven newsroom leadership experience
• Demonstrated ability to plan and execute multiplatform coverage
• Exceptional editorial judgment, organizational skills and collaborative leadership style
• A background in military, security or international news is preferred but not essential.
