Description:
The Villages Daily Sun, Florida's largest daily printed newspaper — a 2024 Pulitzer Prize finalist — is seeking a seasoned photojournalist who shares our passion for community storytelling.
About this position
This is a leadership role on our four-person photojournalism team tasked with defining the high-end of what is possible in visual storytelling. Senior staffers stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our management team in setting an ambitious agenda, and we look to them to drive the newsgathering process and seek out new challenges without prodding. They backfill for managers as needed and are counted on to help develop less experienced staffers.
This is a print-centric role solely focused on journalistic excellence with no video distractions (though we do coordinate closely with our TV broadcast group). We shoot news and sports events, but the majority of our report is comprised of human interest features. So a love for people and ability to deeply connect with them is as essential as technical skills.
The right candidate will be comfortable collaborating across newsroom teams and submitting to a rigorous editing process that makes us frequent winners in NPPA clip contests and other industry competitions.
Ours is an onsite newsroom that believes in the power of eyeball-to-eyeball collaboration vs. the creative vacuum of a remote workflow. We offer a generous newshole, impeccable print quality, modern tech resources and managerial support that enable good journalists to become truly great.
