The Villages Daily Sun, Florida's largest daily printed newspaper and a 3-time finalist for SND’s World’s Best Designed Newspaper, is seeking a designer who shares our passion for the power visual storytelling.
About this position
This is a rare opportunity to escape the creative vacuum of remote work and join an inventive team that still values eyeball-to-eyeball collaboration. This is a print-centric role solely focused on journalistic excellence with no digital distractions in a newsroom that is visually literate across the board.
Here, designers don’t wait at the end of the assembly line to execute other people’s ideas – they drive the reader experience. The right candidate will be comfortable collaborating across newsroom teams, submitting to a rigorous editing process and helping others grow.
Our designers are journalists who produce pages to a high level of accuracy, quality and clarity with an emphasis on visual sophistication. They contribute to research, write informative headlines, support the craft of photojournalism and craft innovative surprises for our readers.
We offer a generous newshole, impeccable print quality, modern tech resources (we work in InDesign in a fully based Mac shop) and managerial support that enable good journalists to become truly great. The shift is typically Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., but if you have a penchant for sports we can utilize you on our night sports and weekend sports team as well.
InDesign proficiency is a plus, however, we value potential over pedigree and can teach you the technical aspects of the job. The most important skill is a love of community journalism and an appetite for continuous learning. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply!
