Description:
St. Louis Magazine has an immediate opening for a reporter capable of digging deeply into the economic mobility issues that hold St. Louis back. As we build an Economic Mobility Lab within our publication, we’re looking for a journalist who is excited about the chance to go deeper.
You should have a proven track record of news coverage that shows you can both talk to the real people behind the data and navigate complicated bureaucracies, with the ability to get to the bottom of the story even when sources are in disagreement. You'll work closely with a small but motivated team dedicated to deepening public understanding of economic mobility through consistent, fact-based reporting. You should be eager to report on St. Louisans' lived experience, not just talk to people in power.
While the lab is housed within a magazine, the focus is digital-first. You should be comfortable juggling both immediate and longer-term deadlines for a mix of long-form and more timely coverage. Facility with TikTok, Instagram Reels, or other short-term video will be a huge plus. The ability to take good photos of the people you interview is also essential.
Please email your resume, five of your best news clips, and a cover letter explaining why you’d crush it at this job to executive editor Sarah Fenske at sfenske@stlmag.com.
Salary is negotiable, with a range tied to experience. St. Louis Magazine also offers a full suite of benefits, including health insurance and paid time off.
