Position Summary
The Audio News Editor/Producer acts as the primary liaison between Pennon News and WITF Programming, ensuring Pennon’s journalism reaches audiences via radio and on-demand audio. This role oversees the adaptation, production, and quality of audio content, maintaining WITF’s standards of journalistic integrity and engaging regional audiences effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend newsroom budget meetings and identify stories suitable for radio and on-demand platforms.
- Edit scripts and produce audio versions of stories for broadcast and online.
- Maintain smooth workflows between news production and programming.
- Collaborate with “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered” hosts to deliver timely news.
- Make editorial decisions for regional/state newscasts and deliver live on-air updates when needed.
- Ensure audio content is distributed on NPR One and other digital platforms.
- Write and edit audio news copy, create reader scripts, and review audio quality.
- Participate in fundraising drives and represent WITF with external networks and professional organizations.
- Assist with budgets, policy, special coverage planning, and staff development.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree plus 4+ years in media as reporter/editor; experience producing long-form audio; understanding of public media’s mission; leadership skills.
- Skills: Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication; strong editorial judgment; proficiency with newsroom and office software (e.g., Wireready, databases, Word, etc.); ability to operate audio equipment.
- Competencies: Collaboration, diversity and inclusion, leadership, problem-solving, and customer service orientation.
