FREELANCE REPORTER (local): 

Job Title: Freelance Local News Reporter
Location: Northwestern Connecticut

Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and resourceful Local News Reporter to cover community news and events in Northwestern Connecticut. The ideal candidate will be responsible for researching, writing, and reporting timely, accurate, and engaging news stories for print, digital, and/or broadcast platforms. Coverage areas may include local government, schools, public safety, business, culture, and human interest stories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend and report on local meetings, events, and breaking news

  • Conduct interviews with local officials, residents, and business owners

  • Write clear, compelling news stories on deadline

  • Develop story ideas that reflect the interests and concerns of the local community

  • Collaborate with editors and other newsroom staff to ensure coverage is thorough and balanced

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred

  • Excellent writing, interviewing, and research skills

  • Strong knowledge of AP style and journalistic ethics

  • Familiarity with the Northwestern CT region is a plus

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends

FREELANCE REPORTER: (state news): 

Job Title: Freelance Remote Reporter – Connecticut State News

Job Description:
We are looking for a skilled and reliable freelance reporter to cover statewide news in Connecticut. This remote position involves researching, writing, and pitching timely and accurate stories focused on state government, policy, public affairs, and major developments impacting Connecticut residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report on Connecticut state legislature, agencies, and statewide issues

Job Description:
A monthly community newspaper in Northwestern Connecticut is seeking a detail-oriented freelance copy editor to review and polish articles prior to publication. This remote role involves editing for length, grammar, punctuation, clarity, style, and consistency, as well as fact-checking and ensuring adherence to AP style and the publication’s editorial standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Edit news and feature articles for length, grammar, style, clarity, and accuracy

  • Ensure consistency with AP style and in-house guidelines

  • Fact-check names, dates, and key details

  • Work closely with editors and writers to meet monthly production deadlines

  • Provide light headline writing or proofreading as needed
