FREELANCE REPORTER (local):
Job Title: Freelance Local News Reporter
Location: Northwestern Connecticut
Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and resourceful Local News Reporter to cover community news and events in Northwestern Connecticut. The ideal candidate will be responsible for researching, writing, and reporting timely, accurate, and engaging news stories for print, digital, and/or broadcast platforms. Coverage areas may include local government, schools, public safety, business, culture, and human interest stories.
Key Responsibilities:
Attend and report on local meetings, events, and breaking news
Conduct interviews with local officials, residents, and business owners
Write clear, compelling news stories on deadline
Develop story ideas that reflect the interests and concerns of the local community
Collaborate with editors and other newsroom staff to ensure coverage is thorough and balanced
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred
Excellent writing, interviewing, and research skills
Strong knowledge of AP style and journalistic ethics
Familiarity with the Northwestern CT region is a plus
Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends

Job Description:
