Job Description:

Community Advocate is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Editor to join our growing team. Located in Westborough, we serve the communities between Worcester and Framingham. We pride ourselves on delivering quality journalism that reflects the interests and needs of our community. If you’re passionate about community journalism and have strong organizational skills, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation Write and assign articles, news pieces, and features that engage our readership and reflect community interests.

Editing and Proofreading: Review and edit submissions for grammar, clarity, and style while ensuring adherence to our editorial standards and mission.

Organization and Scheduling- Manage editorial calendars, coordinate deadlines, and help schedule coverage for community events and meetings.

Collaboration- Work closely with reporters, designers, and the editorial team to brainstorm ideas and ensure cohesive storytelling across platforms.

Community Engagement:  Cultivate relationships with local organizations, attend community events, and source stories that resonate with our audience.

Performance Tracking- Assist in monitoring readership metrics and feedback to adapt our content strategy and enhance engagement.

Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 3 years in journalism, with a demonstrated passion for community reporting.

Writing Skills- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different stories and platforms.

Organizational Skills:Excellent organizational abilities, with experience in managing multiple projects and deadlines.

Team Player-  Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative spirit, eager to support and uplift fellow team members.

Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in digital publishing tools, social media platforms, and content management systems.

Community Focused - A genuine interest in community journalism and the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
