One of the newspaper industry’s top design firms has a rare opportunity for an assistant designer to help produce newspapers and magazines, redesign publications and design websites and web software products for local media outlets.

Creative Circle is an international design and software firm for the media industry based near Providence, R.I. We redesign print newspapers and magazines (more than 850 since 2000). We build innovative, custom software for media companies, associations and businesses. We remake brands, advertising and marketing materials and provide in-depth training for newsroom staffs (leading thousands of workshops in 23 countries). We have innovative news and features distribution services. Our software arm, which hosts more than 500 community news sites, is growing rapidly and creating new software tools regularly.

This isn’t just a production role. We do high-level design and editing. We have a wide range of projects going on at any one time – print production, managing news web sites, software development, redesigns, marketing and advertising ­– so we can cater your work to your strengths and interests while challenging you with new experiences and opportunities.  

We work exclusively with family-owned and locally owned media companies, most of which are committed to delivering quality news products. We’re creating cutting-edge solutions for our clients for both print and digital publishing. Everyone on our team is deeply involved in our success and you will be, too. You will have opportunities to work independently, help shape our product development, work directly with customers and lead projects appropriate to your level of knowledge and interests.

For this role, we are looking for someone with one to three years of print design experience with newspapers or magazines. Accuracy, excellent communication abilities and knowledge of multiple design software platforms (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) are required. Problem solving, great customer support and strong initiative are all part of our DNA. Knowledge of HTML, Word and Excel is preferred. Interest or experience in web software, running websites, SEO, reporting, copy editing, photojournalism, social media or newsletters would be a plus.

This is a full-time position in our East Providence, Rhode Island, office. While many of our employees do regularly work from home, you'd be working primarily in our office. Some time working from home and some travel might be part of your role once you are fully trained.
