The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is seeking a Multimedia Editor to lead our team in creating compelling video, audio, and digital storytelling. You’ll collaborate with talented journalists, oversee innovative short-form and long-form multimedia projects, and help shape news coverage across our website, social media platforms and digital replica edition. The Multimedia Editor will lead a team of two multimedia reporters on staff and one or two freelance videographers, conceive and assign short- and long-term projects, shoot and edit video as needed, and produce and edit podcasts. Under general supervision, they will monitor newsroom budgets and coordinate the production of standalone and story-driven multimedia content.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
Collaborate with newsroom staff to gather and combine video, audio, and visuals into newsworthy packages for daily and long-term coverage.
Generate and manage a daily budget of multimedia elements.
Oversee the Democrat-Gazette’s production studio; coordinate and edit in-house podcasts and video series for publication on the website, social media, and digital edition.
Create audience-engaging vertical video shorts for social media and the website.
Shoot video on location for major events and breaking news, conduct on-camera interviews, and gather footage to edit into complete story packages.
Train staff to shoot and edit video, working with reporters and photographers to improve multimedia skills using mobile phones, video cameras, and other equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Has proven experience shooting and editing video, and producing audio and podcasts.
Is proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, especially Premiere, Audition, and Photoshop.
Possesses strong interviewing, observation, and organizational skills.
Can organize and deliver video training programs for staff.
Demonstrates a solid understanding of journalistic techniques and procedures.
Has excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong command of grammar and spelling.
Can work efficiently under deadline-driven, high-pressure situations.
Is able to identify and develop story ideas independently with minimal supervision.
Works well with news sources, the public, and colleagues.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in journalism preferred; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience at a daily newspaper, news website, or a closely related field required.
