Description:
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Associate
Editor role combines reporting, writing and editing. Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief of Virginia Magazine. This is an opportunity for
a gifted writer and editor to do their best work—to report and write engaging
stories on a wide range of subjects, gorgeously presented in print and online, for
a discerning audience of approximately 270,000 University of Virginia alumni
around the world. The Associate Editor contributes to the quarterly print publication of Virginia Magazine and related
digital platforms, doing so with a depth, sophistication, wit, and style
befitting our audience and our editorial mission. The Associate Editor develops
a range of content, from major features to news reports to data stories to alternative
forms of storytelling.
Story-idea generation
and beat development make up an important part of the responsibilities. The Associate
Editor needs to develop an intimate understanding of UVA—its culture, values,
history and traditions; student life; its academic world; its management and
administration; and especially its alumni and how they are best served in the
magazine. This person will have oversight of regularly occurring sections of
the magazine.
The University of Virginia Alumni Association is an
equal employment opportunity employer seeking to attract and retain a diverse
work force and encourages members of historically underrepresented groups to
apply.
