Description:
The Westerly Sun, a digital-focused daily news operation covering southwestern Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut, is seeking a creative and energetic managing editor to take us to the next level. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of our news-gathering operation, including a staff of three reporters and several freelance reporters and photographers.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional written and oral communication skills, an obsessive attention to detail and organization, a mastery of AP style, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and a strong willingness to work in a team-focused environment. Our fast-paced newsroom includes a diverse mix of news, sports, features, entertainment and community submissions.
Regular duties will include page design and production using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, managing the news, photography and sports departments and representing The Sun in the community. Familiarity with GMail, Google Docs and spreadsheets is a must. Special duties include managing team election coverage, special sections and overseeing the departmental budget.
