Description:
AlterNet seeks an energetic and resourceful Senior Editor to help deliver speedy, high-volume coverage of breaking news across topics in national politics, criminal justice, elections, social justice and the economy. The ideal candidate should possess a proven track record of news writing, with a genuine interest and familiarity with U.S. politics. Flexibility to cover some night, morning and weekend shifts will be required. In addition to editing and management responsibilities, the role also involves writing news stories.
Key Requirements:
- Proven ability to unearth new stories and explore unique angles on events and issues that have yet to be covered by mainstream media
- In-depth knowledge and interest in the fast-paced breaking news cycle
- Demonstrated strong news judgment, with experience editing breaking news
- Capability to handle a high volume of editing and writing
- Familiarity with social media channels and effective story promotion
