The package includes a 135-year-old publication that is the sole media outlet in its county and remains a valuable, award-winning, highly-acclaimed newspaper that has met the modern challenges of news production by adding digital and video components to its news coverage. Its sister publication was established in 1911 and was acquired by the current publishers in 2021. Together, both publications have earned more than 400 awards from the Alabama Press Association over the past 22 years, including awards for news reporting, feature stories, advertising design, photography, editorials, overall content, and page design, among a long list of others.  The  publications are also newspapers of record in their respective markets and have no print competition for the publication of legal notices in both counties.
