General Assignment Reporter 

The Billings Gazette, the voice of the largest city in Montana and one of the few remaining seven-day print newspapers in the western United States, is seeking an ambitious and enterprising reporter.

We’re looking for a reporter who will plug in quickly, invest in relationships, connect readers with what they can’t see themselves, and write with authority. This full-time position in our digital-first newsroom will provide opportunities to write daily news, explore issues and trends that impact Montana families, and cover local events.

The Gazette is one of five Montana newsrooms in Lee Enterprises, plus a Capitol bureau in Helena. We share planning and resources, allowing reporters more time to work on bigger, deeper pieces. Our newsroom is a mix of smart, young reporters and deeply experienced veterans, and it shows in what we produce. We’ve been named the state’s best newspaper for eight years in a row.

Billings is a vibrant, affordable city with a walkable downtown featuring fine dining, performing arts centers, museums, live music venues, and more than our share of craft brew pubs. There’s even an international airport that you could literally walk to. And, if outdoor living is your thing, everything you’ve heard about Montana is true.

This is a full-time guild position with annual pay starting at $43,000.
