Senior reporter

Hobbs News-Sun

Hobbs, New Mexico

The Hobbs News-Sun is seeking a full-time senior reporter to augment our small but passionate staff.

We are five-day a week, locally owned newspaper in southeast New Mexico in the heart of the Permian Basin and oil field, where local news and high school sports are the lifeblood of our publication.

Senior reporter is the number two position in the newsroom. While primarily a writing position, the senior reporter takes an active role in daily newsroom operations, reading copy and proofing pages when the editor is not available.

The senior reporter takes over layout duties two days a week so a minimum of a strong working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign and Photoshop. We need a person who is willing to roll up their sleeves and write stories and columns, guide young reporters and help build pages, all the while appreciating the impact journalism and newspaper has on our community.

The right candidate will have practical skills in Indesign, Photoshop and content management software as well as social and digital media knowledge.  Duties include developing the daily news content, reporting, editing, occasional pagination, basic photography, copy editing, assigning and developing stories, planning, and engaging with the public. The editor will also collaborate with other departments and management.

Prior experience a plus but we are willing to look at someone ready to step up.

Send letter and resume to the editor,  Andy Brosig, at editor@hobbsnews.com.
