Description:

The Roy Howard Community Journalism Center is looking for a managing editor to help launch this innovative initiative based at the University of Southern Mississippi. The center is the result of a unique partnership between the university and the Scripps Howard Fund.

The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader, high energy journalist, and a skilled wordsmith with some experience leading teams in a news environment across platform. When fully staffed, the center will have six full-time positions and more than 16 students.

The goal of the center is to strengthen community journalism in Southeast Mississippi by doing high impact news work, developing student talent, and partnering with area outlets to advance their vision and goals for how they want to cover their communities.

Requirements include:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.

Three to five years years media experience with a rising level of responsibility.

Ability to lead teams to achieve the highest level of professional standards.

Skills necessary to work with students and professionals at the university and in Southeast Mississippi community.
