Job Description: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced newspaper publisher to lead our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for community journalism and a keen understanding of the local issues that matter most to our readers. This role requires a blend of editorial vision, business acumen, and strong leadership skills to ensure the newspaper’s continued success and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management:

    • Oversee all aspects of newspaper operations, including editorial, advertising, circulation, and finance.
    • Lead and mentor a team of journalists, editors, advertising sales staff, and support personnel.
    • Foster a collaborative and innovative workplace culture.
  • Editorial Oversight:

    • Ensure the newspaper maintains high standards of journalism and editorial integrity.
    • Oversee the development of content that is relevant, accurate, and engaging for the local community.
    • Coordinate with the editorial team to plan and execute the newspaper’s editorial calendar.
  • Business Operations:

    • Develop and implement strategies to grow readership and revenue.
    • Manage the newspaper’s budget, including forecasting, reporting, and financial planning.
    • Oversee advertising sales efforts, including developing new revenue streams and maintaining relationships with local businesses.
  • Community Engagement:

    • Represent the newspaper at community events and build strong relationships with community leaders, organizations, and readers.
    • Respond to reader feedback and address concerns in a timely and professional manner.
    • Advocate for the newspaper’s role in promoting civic engagement and informed citizenship.


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in newspaper publishing or a related industry.
  • Proven track record of successful leadership and management.
  • Strong editorial judgment and a commitment to journalistic integrity.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a small-town or community-focused newspaper.
  • Understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities of small-town journalism.
  • Demonstrated success in growing readership and revenue in a media environment.
