We are seeking an experienced reporter to cover major daily health news, from drug approvals to the latest wellness findings, to updates in health insurance and regulations.

The ideal candidate should know how to develop a beat, build sources, and have excellent news judgment. They will need to be comfortable working with other reporters on specialized beats like COVID, nutrition, or gut health for more complex stories. 

Responsibilities:

• Monitor health news and news makers for drug and treatment developments, research findings, public health alerts, and changes in health care policies.
• Develop sources, learn the inner workings of major agencies like the FDA, CDC, and HHS, and identify where to find stories before they break 
• Handle big health news of the day, and work with other reporters when necessary
• Write clear, accurate copy, and handle divisive or contested topics with fairness to both sides 
• Work with editors to develop or modify stories on deadline 
• Identify and stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging health topics

Qualifications:

• At least 3–4 years of experience in fast-paced newsroom, on a daily and even hourly deadline
• A proven ability to develop news sources on beats
• Strong news judgment, able to identify news before it happens
• Proven ability to write clean, concise, and accurate copy on deadline
• Ability to handle both sides of the story well, especially when the topic is contentious
• Great collaboration skills, and good at taking feedback and revising accordingly
• Proven knowledge of  health, wellness, and the healthcare industry is preferred.

Pay range: The annual base pay range for this role is between $48,000 and $72,000. The quoted pay range represents our good faith estimate as to what our candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range according to the selected candidate's experience, location, technical skills, and other factors.
