Summary:

MediaNews Group seeks a full-time Digital Managing Editor based on Scranton, PA, for its Northeast Pennsylvania cluster. This leadership position will oversee digital for the group and also manage the Express News and Storytelling team across four newspapers. We are looking for a creative thinker, rigorous editor and inspiring manager with keen news judgment, sharp line-editing skills and the highest ethical and journalistic standards.

Though most journalists currently work from home, the person hired for this position would be expected to relocate to Scranton, PA without relocation assistance.
 

What you will do:

• Oversee a team of editors and reporters responsible for express news and multiple digital sites

• Foster a nimble work environment that enables a team of reporters and editors to produce "news now" across a multi-county region

• Analyze and adapt to digital metrics to direct a team of regional reporters and editors to consistently produce content to drive readership

• Work closely with top editors of the group to produce strong, interesting and important content for four daily newspapers and 24/7 websites

• Display a proficiency in digital tools and platforms, including content management systems and social media

• Track and report on site speed, traffic, engagement, subscription conversion rates and other measures

• Work to improve site performance

• Provide recommendations to enhance performance and ensure best web practices are used

What you will bring:

• 3 to 5 years of management experience and proven record of producing and overseeing content creation

• Working knowledge of Google GA4 analytics and the ability to analyze trends and direct a news staff to create content to drive readership

• Ability to identify new opportunities and methods for storytelling and direct a team to create content that cultivates new and more online readership, including blogs, podcasts, vlogs and more

• Interest and working knowledge of social media platforms and how to use them to grow an audience across multiple properties

• Ability to engage audience through newsletter, news alerts, email blasts and more

• Ability to collaborate with team of editors and reporters across multiple properties to develop a stream of urgent and interesting content

• A valid Driver's License and reliable transportation is required
