Stars and Stripes, the editorially independent daily newspaper and website covering the U.S. military worldwide, is anticipating two digital editor positions opening up at its headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The editors will update Stripes.com with staff and agency-produced news and features relevant to our audience and share them creatively on social media. They will also be responsible for packaging content with related links, videos and photos; rewriting and condensing material for our target audience; creating original online content such as photo galleries and web pages for special reports; and working with other editors to plan and implement multimedia presentations.
The ideal candidates would have excellent news judgment, superior headline writing and copy editing skills, social media curation experience, knowledge of search engine optimization techniques, and at least three years of experience in a commercial online news environment. Familiarity with social media and experience using content management systems are required. Knowledge of the military is preferred, and HTML and CSS coding is a plus, but not required.
The salary for this position is $55,000-$65,000 per year. Regular work times are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and editors will work one weekend day. Occasional schedule variations may be required.
