33-year-old award winning Bay Area online/print magazine written by high school and middle school students seeks a new managing editor. 

The job is part time and will take between 50-70 hours per month, depending on the production cycle, with flexible scheduling. Magazine publishes five times per year. 

Compensation is $3000 per month for a ten-month year, September - June, with extra compensation if a New York student trip is set up. Candidate should be in the Northern California area and able to visit local schools once or twice a month. 

The ideal candidate will begin in summer and will commit to a minimum of two years. After three months working, there will be a review and a possibility of a promotion. 

FastForward has a circulation of 30,000 in the SF Bay area and has garnered wide acclaim during its 30 years of publishing. FastForward won a Statewide Media Award from the California School Board Foundation and was featured on CNN. Over the years, FastForward student writers and reporters have interviewed many interesting and high-profile artists, innovators, scientists, writers, musicians and authors. 

 

Responsibilities include:

· Working with students on story ideas

· Helping edit and copy edit

· Outreach to area high school students for engagement (3-5 hours per month)

· Occasional writing workshops at area schools

· Creating relationships with sponsors

 

FastForward has previously taken students on annual trips to places like NYC and LA. Possibility of continuing this tradition or looking for new opportunities.

The ideal candidate will work closely with the current publisher to revitalize and continue to grow the magazine, leveraging existing relationships with schools and advertisers.
