Description:

Bay Nature (baynature.org) has a reporting fellowship for a reporter from a historically underrepresented background in journalism. We’re looking for a person seeking online and print reporting and writing experience covering local communities, climate change, and environmental science and ecology in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Bay Nature is an award-winning consumer print magazine and website that covers environmental issues and the natural sciences in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. We are a small, independent nonprofit media organization that has been publishing since 2001, and we are a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News. Our newsroom staff consists of four people and numerous contractors and freelancers.

For this full-time, one-year fellowship, you’ll further develop your reporting and writing, magazine fact-checking, and basic Qualtrics skills, as well as learn about and spend time in the natural and human-built landscapes of the Bay Area. You’ll leave your year here with a range of published articles—from short news pieces to long enterprise features—and with contacts, insight, and experience that will prepare you to continue to report and write about the environment.

The deadline to apply for our Community Affairs Reporter fellowship is May 8, 2024. The fellowship will begin August 1, 2024.

The one-year position pays $50,000 for the year with health benefits, paid vacation, and sick leave. This is not a remote position. It requires two days a week, 9 am to 5 pm, in the Bay Nature office in West Berkeley.

We look forward to your application.
