The primary role of the photographer is to shoot photos and videos and to report accurately on news and events in our region.  The successful applicant must be capable of shooting a broad range of assignments, from sports to spots news, for still photography, as well as videography. The San Antonio Express-News is committed to practicing high-level documentary photojournalism, free of personal or political bias. The position will also require two days on the photo desk as an editor.  This role will require editorial decisions on selecting photos to run with stories in the print and online edition along with online packages either by working with other photographers or choosing wire and file photos.  When working as editor, you will be responsible to assign photo requests on those days and in future days, if necessary.

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Actively engage on social media
• Experiment with new story forms and tools available for visual storytelling
• Accurately gather names and information related to assignment
• Maintain photographic and electronic communications equipment
• Actively engage in the community to find new stories and news sources
• Workflow associated to turning in and attaching photos to digital story packages

Skills: 

• Practice high-level documentary photojournalism, free of personal bias and with high attention to accuracy.  
• Ability to work with other photographers in editing work and developing story ideas. 
• Must work with various technologies from Mac computers to FTP and online publishing systems.

Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements, Education

• Bachelor's Degree 
• 2 Years experience reporting for a newspaper 
• Able to work on short deadlines 
• Excellent written and communication skills needed
• Experience with story telling techniques
