Description:

We are searching for a full-time page designer/copy editor to play a crucial role in maintaining our position as the leading source of news and information in Northwest Arkansas. The ideal candidate will primarily focus on crafting layouts for daily publications encompassing sports, news, and special sections. Additionally, they will generate extra pages for our e-edition online. Occasional page design duties for weekly publications may also be assigned.

The selected individual will be tasked with crafting attention-grabbing headlines and strategically arranging news content on pages to enhance impact and attract readership. Meeting deadlines is imperative, as is proficiency in editing and Adobe InDesign. A fundamental understanding of journalism principles and familiarity with AP style are essential. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is advantageous.

This role presents a unique professional growth and development opportunity, with evening shifts and possible weekend extensions. We value candidates with prior experience at a local daily newspaper, but we also encourage applicants with experience in weekly or monthly publications or those at the entry level seeking to build their careers. The job involves prolonged sitting while working on a computer screen under deadline pressure. Remote work options may be available for certain shifts.

At the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, we prioritize our employees' well-being. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off, comprehensive health insurance, retirement plans, and an Employee Assistance Program for additional support. This package underscores our commitment to your health and happiness, providing you with the security and support you need to thrive in your role.

This is a safety-sensitive role; candidates must pass drug screenings and background checks and maintain a satisfactory driving record. As part of our commitment to safety, this role may involve occasional travel to cover local events or meetings.

We are committed to diversity and proud to be an equal-opportunity employer. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, disability, age, genetic information, or any other legally protected status.

The Northwest Arkansas is exploding with opportunity and growth. If you think you're the right person for the job, send your resume and samples to Lisa Thompson at lthompson@nwaonline.com.
