Locally-owned, Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper and media company Willamette Week is seeking an Assistant Arts & Culture Editor with reporting and editing experience to join the team.
We’re looking for a candidate who can be an arbiter of what’s next in the city with an emphasis on discovery—identifying breakout bands, steering readers toward innovative culinary pop-ups and cultural shifts in visual arts. Can you write criticism in an insightful way, and uplift artistic movements that merit praise? Can you manage a small team under big pressure? We want to meet you. Come from a background that’s underrepresented in journalism? We want to hear from you.

-
Collaborate with Arts & Culture Editor on scheduling, writing and editing weekly print content, including bimonthly cover packages
-
Assist overseeing a team of freelancers covering a diverse range of arts & culture news
-
Develop a beat to cover as WW’s main voice for both digital and print
-
Contribute stories to WW’s digital coverage
-
Work from the NW office at least three days a week (this is a hybrid role)
-
Attend team and all staff meetings, and collaborate with other departments on company wide initiatives
Qualifications:
-
2+ years of professional writing experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, creative writing or equivalent work experience
-
Sharp proofreading and editing skills
-
A strong writing portfolio
-
Experienced in giving clear and concise editing feedback and responding to edits
-
An organized writer with ability to balance multiple projects and prioritize deadlines
