Description:

Needed: A creative storyteller, strong editor, sports expert and dynamic leader to direct a three-person sports team and coverage of scholastic, college and recreational sports for a 150-year-old, family-owned newspaper in Western Pennsylvania. The Butler Eagle’s long-time sports editor is retiring and the search to fill his iconic role includes finding a person who understands the importance of community connections. The position includes producing two to four sports pages six days a week for the newspaper and coordinating that coverage over multiple platforms. Pagination and social media skills are essential. The editor also works with two staff photographers and a number of freelance photographers and writers, especially during football season. The coverage footprint spans 11 school districts, Slippery Rock University and Butler County Community College. This salaried position comes with health care, vacation time, seven paid holidays and 401(k) program. If this is your dream job, send a cover letter, resume and a selection of writing and design samples to Donna Sybert, managing editor, at dsybert@butlereagle.com. The change in leadership will occur in early June, and training could be available earlier.
