Story-hunter + researcher

Experienced national-magazine journalist looking for a story-hunter and researcher to help identify and develop leads for magazine features and film/TV projects. We'll work together to find the kernel of the idea, then you'll report it out and see what's there—which is very often nothing. But some of these ideas will be good and we'll pursue them to the final product. The right person will have a well-honed, heat-seeking instinct for what makes a narrative magazine feature or a season of TV, along with experience reporting or fact-checking longform stories or documentaries: finding leads, identifying sources, getting on the phone early and often, prying loose hard-to-find documents and media, navigating state and federal courts, interfacing with fixers outside the US, etc.
This is part-time, based in Los Angeles. Depending on how things go, there's room to expand into a more editorial/managerial role. Pay is competitive and based on experience.
Please send me a brief email with a few sentences about your relevant experience, a CV, and a clip or two (if you have them).
Looking forward to hearing from you!
