The Eastern Colorado Newspaper Group (Brush News-Tribune, Fort Morgan Times, Fort Morgan Weekly, South Platte Sentinel and Sterling Journal-Advocate) is looking for an experienced journalist to serve as Editor, editing and producing content daily for the newspapers' websites and print editions.


Must live in Morgan County or be willing to relocate without relocation assistance.

What you will do:

  • Help coordinate news coverage (curation, gathering, writing and editing) of Logan and Morgan counties

  • Maintain and update the websites throughout the day

  • Collaborate with and coach reporting staff, including educating on AP style and good practices

  • Effectively utilize our web content-management systems

  • Oversee production of daily and weekly news products as well as special projects in concert with assistant editors in each market

  • Establish good working relationships within our organization and within the communities we serve

  • Collaborate with sales and publisher in determining/scheduling content related to special publications/projects

  • Other duties will be assigned as necessary

  • Work weekends and some holidays as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires


What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree (with comparable experience) in journalism or related field

  • 2+ years of working experience as an editor for a daily or weekly newspaper

  • Relevant experience in news editing, reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content

  • Proven ability to coach reporters through breaking news online quickly

  • Understanding of Colorado Open Meetings Laws and ability to coach reporters through open records requests

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong editing, writing, organizational and story structure skills

  • Ability to constantly assess trending content and best practices that are relevant and/or of interest to our readers

  • An understanding of the imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print

  • Proven production deadline performance; remain calm and collected — and make smart decisions — in high-stress, deadline situations

  • An attitude that contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration

  • Ability and willingness to experiment with new digital tools and platforms

  • Must live in area or be ready and willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)


The annual salary range is $55,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and a 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
