Chicago Parent and Metro Parent (Detroit), two well-established magazines that have covered the metro areas for decades, are seeking a content manager who can accelerate our digital growth.
Our publications connect families with the best local resources, advice, stories, things to do with kids and much more. And we're seeking a Content Manager to play a key role in the company’s editorial strategy, audience growth and reader engagement.
We're seeking a great manager, editor and writer, copy editor and organizer of people, processes and content. Most importantly, this manager is collaborative and understands how to create local content that parents need in their lives today to make informed decisions for their family.
The Content Manager works with a team of writers and contractors and creates useful and impactful content for our publications, website and digital products.
We are 100% focused on growing our digital audience and the success of this position is based on how effective the Content Manager is in executing that vision and improving the journalism we’re doing today.
This position is an editorial content-focused role and must work in collaboration with others in the organization to support the successful distribution of the content. The role can be based in Chicago or Detroit.
Here are some specific things that are part of the role:
Help manage a daily web schedule and digital-only content plan for both publications.
Build a print budget (based on that content) and coordinate with departments for the production of those editions.
Actively work on partnerships in both markets, seeking avenues to promote the brand and our content (TV, podcasts, etc.).
Accountability for audience growth numbers across numerous platforms: web, social, newsletters.
Write, edit and publish daily content across a variety of topics that are relevant to our parenting readers.
Actively engage our audience across social media channels with strategies that build traffic but also that encourage participation.
Find important and useful stories for our audience and be great at aggregating the content our audience wants.
Use systems like Google Analytics and HubSpot to learn what our audience wants more of (and what they want less of).
