Description:

Global B2B regulatory news service Chemical Watch News & Insight is looking for an ambitious, experienced news journalist with a strong interest in reporting on policy and regulatory developments to join our 21-strong editorial team.

Chemical Watch reports on actions taken by governments, businesses, and other groups around the world to safely manage chemicals – a goal vital to human health and the environment.

Reporting to our Washington DC-based managing editor for North America, the successful candidate will report on regulatory developments across the US and Canada, covering rules developed under federal environmental statutes like the Toxic Substances Control Act and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, as well as state-level actions.

  • Proven experience breaking news stories in a professional newsroom environment is essential, as is the confidence to establish excellent contacts with regulatory authorities, industry bodies and NGOs concerned with the safe management of chemicals in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Experience reporting on a relevant field such as science, environmental regulation, policy development, public health, litigation or the chemical industry would also be very welcome.
  • The successful candidate must have excellent written English, the confidence to tackle sometimes highly technical subjects and the interest to develop a deep understanding of the regulatory process.
  • While the primary task will be to research and write news stories, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to write longer feature articles, contribute to podcasts, and attend key industry events.
