Description:

The River Valley Democrat-Gazette seeks an editor to work out of our Fort Smith office to supervise and coach the reporters on our award winning staff. Our presence in the River Valley is growing along with its cities.

The editor would be responsible — in collaboration with reporters and other editors — for assigning feature, enterprise and stories, photos and graphics; directing coverage and editing the work of reporters and others in the newsroom; some writing; and overseeing the production of digital content on multiple formats.

The editor will be part of the paper's outreach and customer service to the public at large.

This editor may also be asked to oversee special projects at times and take on other duties as assigned.

The position requires a degree in journalism or a related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. More than three years of newsroom supervision experience is preferred, preferably at a daily newspaper. Experience producing digital content on deadline is preferred. Knowledge of proper grammar and Associated Press style is required.

The position is primarily located in Fort Smith, Monday – Friday, 10 a.m.  to 7 p.m., but may be expected to work from the Fayetteville office once a week and may supervise some writers in Fayetteville. Days and hours will vary occasionally.

This is a safety sensitive position.
