Description:

Six Rivers Media, LLC, a family-owned news organization serving Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, seeks a Sports Editor. 

We are looking for a thoughtful, dedicated leader who can direct a team of reporters to produce daily and longer-form enterprise coverage. This includes breaking news, in-depth projects and engaging features. 

We are a digital-first organization, but we are firmly committed to our printed newspapers. We care about both our subscriber audiences in print and online. 

We need a captain who collaborates with colleagues at two daily newspapers in Kingsport and Johnson City and three weeklies in Jonesborough, Erwin and Mountain City, all located in Tennessee.

This editor will lead multi-platform coverage of all things sports, including Bristol Motor Speedway (home of two NASCAR races each year), outdoors and recreation, East Tennessee State University athletics, and other area colleges and high schools.

This position requires some weekend and night work, as dictated by events and news. 

Responsibilities include planning, assigning, selecting, reporting and writing stories. This person needs to edit stories for taste, grammar and libel. 

This editor needs to work closely with other SRM managers to make coverage decisions based on our goals and priorities. This leader needs to use digital tools to monitor audience interest in stories and to boost readership.

-Post stories to social media platforms and websites
-Generate story ideas to entertain and engage our audience
-Identify, cultivate and develop sources within the community and region
-Knowledge of AP style is a plus

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications are highly prized.
