Description:

Washington DC-based research firm seeks a data analyst/technical reporter. Must have desire to work in teams to unearth secrets, find hidden connections and solve mysteries.

The successful candidate will help a team of researchers identify new data sources, turn unstructured information into structured data, and streamline the reporting process through code-based tools. They should have a creative and entrepreneurial mindset, able to suggest novel ways to investigate issues even when data are not readily available. The analyst will also write research memos on technical subjects that arise in complex business investigations.

Candidates must have a track record of work that uses programming languages—preferably Python—to identify patterns, organize information, and/or visualize findings. Candidates must be able to clearly communicate research findings in writing; experience writing about technology for a lay audience is strongly preferred.

Employer is a premium research firm that conducts open-source investigations for clients including nonprofits, investors, companies, philanthropists and law firms. Our methodology draws from our team’s extensive experience in investigative journalism, academic research and data science.

Job can be based in Washington DC or Los Angeles, CA.
