The Messenger is a new digital media company, launching May 2023, whose mission is to deliver accurate, balanced, non-partisan reporting across every subject, from news, politics and business to sports and entertainment.

The Messenger is building a team of up-and-coming and seasoned reporters to cover U.S. markets and economics. Markets reporters will be the first-word investors read on the biggest trades of the day, they will explain why the Dow has slid 1,000 points over two days and deliver the hottest earnings news. You be well versed in U.S. equities, bonds, commodities, and currency markets. Your job will start early, sometimes requiring a quick story on overseas markets if the Nikkei tumbles in Japan or Euronext surges overnight. You will turn around quick copy on stocks that tank following fresh accusations of executive wrongdoing or if the latest Musk tweet sends Tesla’s shares soaring.

This team has the tall task of taking complex federal data and turning it into easy-to-digest stories for a broad consumer audience.

We are looking for a mix of talent to build out this team, from ambitious, up-and-coming stars to seasoned veterans who have sources deep inside the Federal Reserve, Wall Street and government agencies and can parachute into the latest quagmire of federal data and quickly turn around crisp and informative copy.

  • Spotting trends in the latest market gyrations and interpreting changes in economic data for a consumer audience

  • Working closely with teams and departments to tell the news in novel ways, from experimenting with charts and data to video and social media.
