Basic Function

Leads the editorial team and oversees the production of Aramco’s signature cultural magazine, AramcoWorld, across its print and digital platforms. The editor is responsible for content strategy, production and day-to-day operations to assure all elements meet deadlines and quality standards. Responsible also for and vendor contracting. Serves as final editor for all content. Contributes content as needed.
 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establishes editorial themes; leads editorial development meetings with staff, outlining and bringing to completion feature story suggestions from internal and freelance sources; sets length, tone and approach in alignment with publisher’s standards and strategic goals
  • Determines contractual terms as approved; establishes all deadlines
  • Responsible for development of all content, mentors assistant editors and freelance contributors to assure standards of policy, tone, accuracy, voice, style, including consistency among AramcoWorld's platform channels
  • Contributes to the development, selection, sequencing and editing of visual content elements
  • Manages vendors that include printers, designers, fulfillment houses and distribution channels
     

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, literature, history, political science, or related field, master's degree preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of professional standards of editorial journalism and magazine publishing in the US, Europe and the Middle East
  • Broad knowledge and demonstrated track record of curiosity about the Islamic world and its global context
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with applications relevant to print and digital periodicals publishing
  • At least ten (10) years of relevant experience, including editing and bylined reporting for peer publications, required; 12 – 15 years preferred
