Job Summary:

The Messenger is seeking a talented and passionate Visual Journalist to join our newsroom. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing and publishing short-form videos and stories, as well as editing short-form visual content as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Produce and publish short-form videos and stories that are engaging, accurate, and informative.
• Create and curator visual content on visual-first platforms, including Tik Tok, Instagram, Snap, and YouTube.
• Research, report, and write scripts for short-form videos and stories.
• Shoot and edit video footage, including b-roll and interviews.
• Collaborate with reporters, producers, and other members of the editorial team to develop and produce visual content.
• Edit short-form visual content, including photos, graphics, and videos, as needed.
• Ensure that all visual content is optimized for SEO and social media.
• Monitor news wires, social media, and other sources to identify stories and trends that are relevant to our audience.
• Attend events and press conferences to gather news and build relationships with key sources.
• Stay up to date on industry trends, developments, and emerging technologies related to visual storytelling.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, Visual Communications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a visual journalist, video producer, or a related role within a newsroom or media organization.
• Strong visual storytelling skills and the ability to produce high-quality, short-form visual content.
• Strong familiarity with visual-first platforms, such as Tik Tok, Instagram, Snap, and YouTube.
• Proficiency in video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or Avid.
• Familiarity with different cameras, lighting, and sound equipment.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Knowledge of AP style and other editorial guidelines.
• Familiarity with different CMS and editorial tools.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain high editorial standards.
