Classification Summary:
The individual in the position allocated to this class is responsible for the research and development of internal and external newsletters and websites that will create a better understanding of the policies, procedures, and direction of Clay Electric to employees and members. Primary responsibilities include performing as editor of the employee newsletter, editor of the Kilowatt newsletter for members and editor of the monthly Power Line bill insert, which is included in members’ bill statements, and serving as a media spokesperson.
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Manager of Communications who reviews the Editor's work on a periodic basis to assure that information is being provided in a clear and concise manner.
Essential Job Functions

- Planning, Goals and Budgets. Assists the Communications Manager in the formulation and implementation of short- and long-range plans, budgets, policies and procedures.
- Division Support. Advises and makes recommendations related to communications programs and activities necessary to the successful accomplishment of the Member and Public Relations program.
- Development and Implementation. Plans, researches, writes and designs internal and external newsletters.
- Managing Resources. Plans and schedules daily workflow assigned, ensuring that all ascribed deadlines for work completion are being met.
- Safety. Practices safe work habits in the performance of all job duties and is familiar with and follows those portions of the Cooperative Safety Manual that pertain to the position.
- Other Essential Duties. Each employee is responsible to perform other duties as required to benefit the Cooperative and its members, includes responding to and/or assisting in emergency situations.
Other Job Duties
- Performs as a writer/photographer for other print communications, the internal and external websites, and special assignments.
- Prepares news releases, prepares speeches, and serves as a media spokesperson for the Cooperative.
- Updates the Cooperative’s Facebook account with timely information.
Minimum Training and Experience:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Journalism and/or Communications plus four (4) years of experience in communications.
Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Skilled in using digital camera equipment and utilizing photographic software.
Skilled in journalism writing.
Ability to communicate verbally with the media.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and apply software programs to job responsibilities.
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Ability to develop a close and cooperative working relationship with other department personnel.
This position requires working beyond normal working hours to meet deadlines.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to meet with the public, media and employees.
