Description:
Digital Editors
Little Rock, Ark., and Chattanooga, Tenn.
Sister newspapers in Arkansas and Tennessee are in the hunt for digital editors to run their online operations.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette position is called Senior Online Editor.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press position is called Digital and Engagement Editor.
Regardless of the names, they both have the same mission:
• Shape the online product to attract new readers
• Find strategies that will encourage those readers to become loyal subscribers
These are not entry-level jobs. The digital editors manage teams — four people in Chattanooga and six in Little Rock — and work with newsroom staff on best digital practices and strategy.
You'll answer questions like these:
• What social media platforms do we need to be on and why?
• What type of content moves readers through the funnel and what type of content keeps our subscribers loyal?
• How can we, a legacy news organization, be more relevant to younger readers?
Both the Democrat-Gazette and Times Free Press are part of a family-owned company. Our new publisher is Eliza Hussman Gaines, a believer in digital first and the latest member of the family in that leadership role.
The bulk of our subscribers read a digital replica of the newspapers on iPads provided by the company. In addition, our website is updated throughout the day.
We are looking for applicants who can tell us how they’ve improved online operations elsewhere and where they see room for improvement for us.
