The Role

Human Resource Executive, the premier media outlet covering strategic issues in HR and the media brand behind the annual HR Technology Conference & Exposition, is looking for a knowledgeable writer and creative thinker to write about all aspects of HR technology. The HR Technology Editor will take a digital-first approach to creating daily content for the site, providing sophisticated editorial coverage and strategic analysis of HR technology, the HR practitioners who use it, and the surrounding industry of buyers and sellers of HR technology. He or she will work to ensure that our content about HR technology is consistently innovative and relevant, serving our target audiences with existing or new products to drive engagement and retention of these audiences. The ideal candidate has an entrepreneurial mindset and knowledge of the start-up space and its network of influencers. The HR Technology Editor will report to Executive Editor Elizabeth Clarke.

Here’s what you’ll be doing

  • Create industry-leading content on all aspects of HR technology for
  • Tell stories through writing and technology—polls, video, data visualization, social media, in-depth pieces, short features, podcasts, emails, etc.
  • Oversee HR tech-related editorial projects, such as Top 100 HR Tech Influencers and Top HR Products of the Year.
  • Work closely with and support program chair and others throughout the company in planning and executing the annual HR Technology Conference & Exposition and related events.
  • Help develop and launch innovative HR tech-related products.
  • Maintain a prominent role on social media as a leading HR tech editor in the field, engaging regularly with the audience and promoting content.
  • Develop sources, network and build relationships throughout the industry to inform stories, webinars, conference programming and other content and business needs.
  • Share knowledge to help keep the rest of the HRE team current on the HR tech industry.
  • Help drive editorial webinars.
  • Travel to and coverage of industry conferences throughout the year.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, digital-first media environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications/journalism or related field
  • At least five years of work experience as a writer or editor
  • Knowledge of human resources and HR technology fields
  • Strong writing, editing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to nurture long-term relationships with key industry influencers
  • Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and research skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with AP style, WordPress, digital tools
  • BA/BS degree in communications, journalism or related field
