Needed: A reporter for the Kent County News with experience covering local news and features, writing news content and working with digital and/or print media. The reporter will be responsible for finding stories and reporting in Kent County, based in Chestertown, Maryland. The reporter will file roughly 8 articles per week.
The reporter will report to the editor of the Kent County News.
Experience reporting and writing at a local newspaper or media outlet
Attention to detail
Basic familiarity with photojournalism
Familiarity with print journalism
Ability to write on deadline and work independently
An understanding of local journalism and its importance in a local community
A passion for the Kent County community and basic knowledge of the area
Writing, photography and social media skills of any level are a must. Video and other multimedia skills are a plus. You must be able to report and write accurately and fairly.
The Kent County News covers and is situated in Kent County, Maryland right on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. We print once weekly and cultivate news, sports and features content throughout the week. Oversight in this role, after training, will be minimal. A self-starting, strong editor and manager is essential for this position. All content published in the Kent County News is at the final discretion of the editor.
